Maybe you’ve got a lot going for you – some solid friends, a decent job, family who cares about you, a working mostly healthy body… Lots of the things that we’re told are supposed to make us happy… but that self doubt is just RELENTLESS. Shouldn’t life feel fuller, easier, more fun by now? Shouldn’t that voice in the back of your head telling you all of the reasons that you suck or why you can’t change/go after what you want/take a risk be quiet by now?! It can feel exhausting, confusing and frustrating to be doubting yourself and your worth day after day. It’s hard to quiet that silly voice that seems to be keeping you at a stand still and in constant questioning of yourself.  If you want to squash the relentless self doubt from sabotaging you from living your …

My Anti Suck It Up Approach to Life

You’ll probably never hear me tell you to “suck it up” when it comes to your life – not your job, relationship, your body, your stress levels, your social life, etc. Nada!  Sure, there are times when we have to do things we’re not thrilled about doing but I think the idea of sucking up a lifetime of misery is simply unacceptable and an unhelpful approach to living life wholeheartedly.  So many of us are raised to believe that we should to go to school, get a job, find a partner, have a family and “make it work” and that that is the right way to do life and if you find you’re unhappy, sorry bout it! Tough shit.  In other words, if you don’t like the path you’ve chosen, suck. it. up. It’s too late. I just can’t get on board with this blasphemous, unhealthy and unhelpful approach to …

Thoughts on Mantras and Affirmations

In Abundance, Career, Happiness, Life Coach, Mental Health, Mindfulness, Positivity, Relationships by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

I have a lot of thoughts on mantras and affirmations. The other night I was thinking about them, and how they’ve become so popular. They’re super mainstream and LOTS of people are using mantras and affirmations in their daily lives. SHWEET! I thought of when I’ve found them useful in my life and the first example that came to mind was NOT what I expected. It sounded a little like this.. “I can do this. I can do this.” — my mantra as a little kid. Ya see, every six months I had to get my blood drawn. I’ve had some chronic autoimmune issues since I was about 6 years old and getting my blood drawn regularly was something I had to get accustomed to from a pretty young age. In Abundance, Career, Happiness, Mental Health, Mindfulness, Therapy, wellness by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

We’re constantly on the hunt for the next big thing. The next step, the bigger prize, the reward, whatever “thing” we think will bring us happiness. Life can become a constant search for “happy.” Lately I’ve been trying to stay more present. I’ve been meditating multiple times a day (without forcing it). I’ve been craving stillness. I’ve found that even after my normally scheduled morning meditation, I want to do it again at other points throughout my day. It’s really helping me to gain clarity and a kind of understanding I didn’t know existed. That being said, I still find myself worrying a lot, thinking about what would happen if I wasn’t ever “successful.” One thing I’m learning is that happiness is not something gained, it’s a choice. It’s my choice to be happy because my life is a gift. (I also want to acknowledge that I’m coming from a …

In Career, Happiness, Life Coach, Mental Health by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

We spend a lot of time in our own heads, listening to our own stories and viewing the world a specific way. It’s easy to get lost and stuck there – but also super natural, unless we’re intentional about stepping outside of our own little brains. A lot of us resist the opportunity to see things from a perspective other than our own. It’s easy to forget that there is so much life to be lived. There’s so much going on around us that it’s easy to forget about the many, many ways to view or interpret the same thing!  Gaining perspective outside of your first instinct can be so helpful when you’re really going through something or feeling stuck. Let me show you how to find a new way of looking at the same old shizzzz. Whether you’re facing something deeply painful or you’re looking to change things up in your life, cultivating …

7 Tips for Starting Conversations as a Self Conscious Millennial

In Career, Friends, Happiness, Life Coach, Personal Growth, Relationships by Chelsea Connors3 Comments

Oh the art of conversation starting. Let’s talk about it! It’s pretty common to feel unsettled about your friendships by your mid twenties. People start changing, growing, and moving more and more towards who they’re going to be as adults.  This means that friends you thought you’d have for life could begin to feel kind of like strangers. It’s really normal to start feeling like all of a sudden you don’t enjoy the same old shit you used to. We may be placed in new environments and situations that make you feel unsure. Most of the time this goes one of two ways: We keep hanging out with the same old people that don’t really make us feel full, happy or complete because it’s easy and convenient. We swirl in a pool of doubt and loneliness feeling like we don’t even know how to talk to new people anymore and therefor …

I started singing when I was about 8 years old. I took private lessons until I was about 15. I was involved in drama club and chorus (..and many other activities). I loved performing and connecting with other people through music. I used my voice to share my thoughts with the world, to meet other peoples and to maybe reach someone who didn’t have the words to describe how they were feeling. I’ve never really been described as shy or quiet. I genuinely enjoy doing presentations/speaking engagements. People have always told me that they love the sound of my voice. I’ve even made a few friends throughout my life because they were intrigued by my voice ..which I guess sounds kind of weird now that I’m typing it, but whatever. I roll with it! I’m also not the loudest one in the room. I like to think of myself as …

How to Find (or Practice) Courage in Your Life

In Career, Happiness, Mental Health, Mindfulness, Positivity, Relationships by Chelsea Connors1 Comment

There’s a lot to be said for finding courage as we face challenges throughout our lives. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines courage as “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty.” When you think of the word courage, do you think of a specific person in your life who always seems to be brave or bold? Or maybe you think of a super hero like I often do. We talk about courage as though it’s something that must be “found” or that we need to will into existence in our lives. I don’t necessarily think that’s the most helpful way to look at it. I think when we really take a step back and look at our lives, we can practice courage in small ways, every single day. Courage can look different for all of us and that’s the beauty of it. You never know how …

It can feel like life is working against you, or maybe things just aren’t going the way you had hoped and planned. The blurred lines can be infuriating as you’re trying to blaze your own path in life. I’ve taken some time to reflect and explore my most recent experience of stuckness. I’ve chatted with friends and colleagues. I’ve confided in family. I’ve journaled and meditated on it. I’ve read up a bit and listened to some inspiring and educational podcasts. This is what I’ve taken from my past week …

So many of my clients describe feeling tired and depleted ALL THE TIME. When I ask them about their relationship with sleep or how their sleep hygiene is, I’m often met with a blank stare. Changing your relationship with/habits around sleep is one of THE most beneficial things you can do for your young adult self – in all aspect. Career, relationships, health, you name it!!  Listen, I get it…I’ve struggled with sleep since the time I came out of the womb. Seriously, ask my mom. It was not fun for her (or me).  A normal night used to look like crawling into bed at whatever time (it really didn’t matter what time it was), and laying there, staring at the ceiling, rolling from side to side for anywhere from 2 to 6 hours. It made for a lot of sleepless nights. It lead to sleep anxiety – I would …

6 Sure-Fire Tips to Help You Make Friends as a Young Adult

In Friends, Happiness, Life Coach, Mindfulness, Relationships by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

Does anyone else here think it’s a bit nuts-o how it can feel so much harder to make friends as we get older? Making friends as an adult can be super duper tricky! Remember when we were younger and were fearless, cute little chitlins. We didn’t often stress about HOW to make friends. We could just walk up to the girl in the purple dress playing with the leggos and say “Hey! I like leggos too!! Can I play?” BOOM. We never had to deal with feeling awkward, questioning ourselves or fearing rejection. Ah, the simple days. Nonetheless, making friends as an adult is a whole different beast. When we were younger we were surrounded by people that were the same age with relatively similar interests for about 15 years. Then we went to college where EVERYONE is looking for a new BFF, which makes it way easier to connect …

Letting Go of Anger & Resentment

In Happiness, Health, Life Coach, Mental Health, Mindfulness, Personal Growth by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

Ohhh, anger. Why oh why do we have such a complex relationship with anger?! Here’s the thing – when I think about anger, I immediately think of pain. Let me tell you why. I truly believe that most of our anger can be rooted back to hurt in one way or another, whether it’s crossed boundaries that built to resentment, feeling taken advantage of, repeated disappointment or betrayal. Whatever it may be, our anger is usually a good sign that we’ve been hurt.  Resentment comes when we try to push away how we really feel. Do that long enough, and you’ll begin to resent the people around you fast as lightning.  Anger can also manifest as a defense mechanism for some people when they’re feeling vulnerable, threatened or insecure in some way. Add in a lack of communication to the mix and we have ourselves a whole bunch of frustrated, …

Sleep Hacks for the Insomniac in You

In Friends, Happiness, Health, Life Coach, Mental Health, Personal Growth, Relationships, wellness by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

How to Turn FOMO into JOMO

Ready to kick FOMO to the curb for good so you can start actually enjoying your free time? Start here! FOMO – lovingly defined as the fear of missing out. That sneaky, sneaky feeling so many of us get at the thought of claiming a night in, saying no to brunch or opting out of a weekend trip. That ache in your gut that has you feeling like sad sally on the outskirts watching life go by.  “But what if I miss something important? What if they have fun without me?! Doesn’t being alone or staying in make me a loser?”  Oh. the. worry.  FOMO can really lead us to a spiral of self doubt and anxiety. FOMO impacts so many clients that I work with, and so profoundly, that they find themselves living lives they don’t enjoy, surrounded by people they don’t actually value… OR they feel absolutely drained …

Relationships, Connection, Love – 6 Things to Ask Yourself About It

In Health by Chelsea Connors6 Comments

Relationships are a big part of our lives. Connection. Love. – A vital piece that we need to feel good in this whole human situation. I often chat with clients and work with them as they’re sifting through some challenging relationships, situationships, or loneliness as young adults. Everything around us (aka society, social media, social norms, family expectations) tells them that in order to be adulting correctly, things should look a certain way and happen in a certain order – and you better keep up, or else. Well here’s the thing, when we succumb to this external pressure SO much that we lose sight of who we are, what we need and what the purpose of relationships even is, we run into trouble. Like big fat, slap in the face trouble from your gut and intuition. They tend to stand up real tall when we’ve been ignoring them long enough. …

A Week Without My Voice

In Health by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

Radio. Silence. — For those of you who are new in this space, I had surgery on my vocal cords. Nothing major and I’ll be fine, but I couldn’t speak for a week — at all. Doctor’s protocol.  While amidst my week of forced silence, I had so many thoughts swirling around in my head and I wanted to get them out into the world. Here’s my reflections during and following #chelseasforcedsilentretreat: Gratitude. I’m grateful beyond belief. Going out into public for a week without using my voice has shown me how much privilege I have. Specifically, how much my health, in itself, is a HUMONGOOOOO privilege. I am so grateful to feel well MOST of the time in my life. I picked up on the confused faces as my family explained to servers that I couldn’t speak to order my own food. I felt sad when I couldn’t contribute to …

Getting Out of Your Head

Have you ever heard people say something along the lines of “You just need to get out of your own head..” meaning something along the lines of: you’re getting in your own way, you’re thinking too much about it, you’re caring too much, you’re stepping on your own toes, keeping yourself stuck, etc. Well, how the eff do we go about “getting out of our own heads” when it’s the only one we really have? The only space we’ve ever lived in internally? The one brain we were given to live in and to support us along this crazy little thang we like to call life? I was thinking about this last night and reflecting on some clients I’ve been working with. Sometimes staying in our own headspace can make us feel stuck. It can make us feel limited, suffocated and EXHAUSTED. When we stay stuck in our own headspace, …

Tough shit.  In other words, if you don’t like the path you’ve chosen, suck. it. up. It’s too late. I just can’t get on board with this blasphemous, unhealthy and unhelpful approach to …

Basically, the exact opposite day of what someone might picture on Black Friday. While chatting with my brother, he said “Can you teach me how you feel so content doing nothing?” I laughed. I used to despise being bored. When I was a teenager, I’d get SO antsy if I didn’t have plans or an activity to keep me occupied. Now the days when I get to move slowly or the weekends where I don’t have any concrete plans, they’ve become my absolute …

Finding Contentment in Your Life, Today

Let me assure you, you’re not alone. Loving Lately – September!

One of my favorite parts of this platform is being able to share so much with you all! Here’s a round up of all the things I’m loving lately to support my own personal mental, emotional and physical well-being! As always, YOU are the expert of you. Take what works for you, experiment with it, and leave the rest. (None of this is sponsored. Just sharing what I’m digging!) 🙂  Here are some of my favorite things I’ve been utilizing lately: Runkeeper – If ya follow me on Insta, (which if you don’t, what are you waiting for?!), you probably know that I’m training for a half marathon with one of my closest friends. Running is hard! I haven’t run like this in a long, long time. Runkeeper is an awesome app I’ve been using. They created a plan for me based on my needs (ie. goal time, where I …

6 Tips on Dealing with Change and Transition

As humans, many of us really struggle with change and transition. We cling to our routines, the people and things that feel familiar, safe and home-y. Whether we like it or not, a time of change and transition will come our way and learning how to deal can be challenging, especially when it’s an unwanted transition. Times of change and transition can look so different; a rough break up, a move to a new city, start of a new school, program or career, a new workout, loss of a close friendship. As a military spouse, change & transitions are part of my norm. To be honest, they used to be something I would dread. I really struggled with letting go and having to start anew. Slowly but surely, I’m learning to love these changes and transitions. ..And even when I don’t, I’ve definitely gained some knowledge in how to better …

I get it. We’ve all been there. It’s easy to get lost into the shuffle and fall back into the patterns that we’re used to. Making changes can be hard. This used to be my experience on the reg until I became more proactive and intentional about the things I wanted to implement in my life. I started setting weekly goals. Life is busy. Change is hard, especially during summer months where routine is no longer the norm. Our social lives are flourishing, and the options are endless. There are more opportunities to spend with family, friends, travel, and be outside than any other time of year. So exciting and …

So many of us experience ongoing stress and anxiety throughout our days. Some of us experience high stress for months on end. There are certain situations where the cause of our stress or anxiety is seemingly out of our hands like a challenging course load in school, a difficult job or an intense family situation. Under stress, it’s easy to get caught up in habits that are comfortable and feel safe, but probably aren’t the most helpful. Something that can be truly impactful during those times is focusing on things we do have control over, those things we know automatically improve our sense of overall well-being. Learning to sit with our anxieties and stressors can feel less daunting when we improve the things in our day to day that we can. Eating habits – A poor diet can be the start of a snowball effect to poor health – both …

Ideas for Slowing Down Before a Busy Season

In Happiness, Mental Health, Mindfulness, wellness by Chelsea Connors0 Comments

It’s August 8th as I’m writing this blog post. Isn’t it nuts how quickly some months seem to go while others seemingly drag on forever? As mid-August is quickly approaching, I can slowly see the busy-ness of the fall season becoming a reality. Am I alone? ..didn’t think so. One of the best things we can do for ourselves as we anticipate a busy season, a big change or a readjustment is to savor the time we have right now. As a therapist and coach, I am incredibly interested in health. I am a huge advocate for overall wellness and “holistic” health but I haven’t always been this way. When I used to think of “health”, I thought of a person who didn’t need any medication, didn’t have any diseases and exercised frequently. I didn’t pay much mind to how what you eat correlates to overall health. My, how things have changed… About a year and a half ago I found myself feeling lethargic, stressed, and genuinely unhappy. It seemed like this was just a constant for over a month. I was just miserable. I felt like there was a cloud hovering over my head that made it hard to get out of bed some days. Energy was nonexistent, and I felt so unlike myself. It was scary. I had this weird itch that maybe my food choices and lifestyle …
